I was listening to a podcast this afternoon where the message I was receiving seemed to be around how precious life is, not to hold off on chasing your dreams and to take action NOW. I was feeling inspired and driven that was until I heard him say….
“There are many young 21 yr olds out there calling themselves life coaches I mean what kind of life have you lived at 21”.
Wow, just wow. The inspiration that I was feeling just a few short moments ago had suddenly changed to frustration and anger. Was it just me or did his 2 messages completely contradict each other?
I firmly believe that age is not a barrier and that you shouldn’t hold off on taking steps towards your passion and dreams until you reach that “perfect age”. At the end of the day what is the “perfect age”?
Are you going to put your life on hold until it’s viewed by others that you are now worthy and have enough life experiences under your belt in order to follow whatever path you’ve had the burning desire to follow? I have news for you lovely, that day may never come, there is always going to be someone who has their view and may not agree with you.
You are worthy of taking charge of your life and doing what you want to do when you believe in yourself and value your own worth.
When people undermine your dreams, predict your doom, or criticize you remember, they’re telling you their story, not yours. – Cynthia Occelli
One thing that I felt had held me back for 5 or so years was that I believed I was “too young” and wouldn’t be taken seriously exactly for that reason, what kind of life experiences had I gone through at 21? Obviously my niche isn’t helping Mum’s navigate through the transition of becoming a new Mum when I don’t have any children of my own (not unless my fur baby counts) however, I do want to coach and inspire other women to live a life that they desire while overcoming the fear, self-doubt and worry about what others may think.
There are many successful young entrepreneurs who have followed their passion, below are just a few that stood out to me.
- Mark Zuckerberg launched Facebook when he was 20
- Matt Wellenweg, created WordPress and is worth $250 million at the ripe age of 25.
- Jessica Watson sailed around the world solo at the age of 17.
- Lorna Jane started when she was in her early 20’s and now has successful stores all over the world (of course i had to through Lorna in there).
I think your picking up what I’m putting down. You can become anything you want to become if you put your mind to it and believe in yourself. Don’t let the concern of what others MAY think hold you back. Your dreams and passions are a lot more important than someone else’s opinion, and that’s all it is, their opinion.
Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice, heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.
Lots of love
